| Commissioner Orban visits Ofis ar Brezhoneg |

Mr Leonard Orban, the European Commissioner for Multilingualism was in Brittany on December 7th to meet officers from Ofis ar Brezhoneg, the Breton language office. Ms Lena Louarn, President of the Office, made a presentation on the situation of the Breton language, the problems that have arisen and the progress of recent years to ensure a bright future for Breton. Mr Orban pointed out how important it is for the EU to defend diversity taking into account not only the State languages, but also other languages such as Breton. Leonard Orban also visited the Diwan Breton immersion school in Rennes and welcomed the teaching method noting its similarities to other successful immersion methods in Europe. Later he met with Jean-Yves Le Drian, President of the Regional Council, and Daniel Delaveau, Mayor of Rennes. (Davyth Hicks, Eurolang - EBLUL 2009)
