EBLUL Closing Statement Print E-mail

EBLUL wishes to inform you that at a meeting of its Board of Directors on January 27 2010, following an internal consultation process with all its’ member State Committees,  has  decided to end the organisation after a quarter century of promoting the cause of Lesser Used Languages in the EU. This is in large part because the funding mechanism of such an organisational model is not suitable in current circumstances. (Danish, Frisian, Gaeilge, Gàidhlig and Polish versions follow below)

A packed Intergroup meeting led by Ms Kinga Gál on Thursday (11th February) heard from the Cabinet of the new Commissioner for Justice (Viviane Reding) on the possibilities afforded by the Lisbon Treaty, and Davyth Hicks from Eurolang, who called for the abolition of discrimination against Europe’s national and linguistic minorities.

 
Galicians demonstrate over draft bill to reduce Galician medium and replace with English Print E-mail

60,000 people, according to the organizers Queremos Galego, 30,000 according to the police, marched through the Galician capital Santiago de Compostela on January 21st to protest against a proposed bill that will reduce the amount of Galician provision from 50% to 33 % - introducing English in its place.
